Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Today (Friday) we heard at least four voices, all representing others, who answered a heartfelt and resounding yes! The Palestinian Arab community has found its voice and is nurturing the seeds of a dream for the future of their home. One woman in particular had begun to live into her dream of bringing Palestinians from the Occupied Territories and Israeli Jews together for genuine dialogue. She is able to do that because of her unique background, as both an Israeli citizen with all its inherent rights of mobility and access to service and as a Palestinian with generations of history/roots in this land, this makes her trustworthy to both sides. Trust is the foundation that allows both Palestinians and Israeli Jews to sit and talk at the same table. Building relationships of trust, it seems to me, is the pathway to respect, equality, and someday, community. This is living into the kingdom of God.
